Legislative Budget Proposals for the 2024 Supplemental
March 15, 2024
SMB has summarized the newly released Senate, House, and Conference budget proposals for the 2024 Supplemental. A comparison of the proposals to the Governor’s budget and the outcomes for Western is available on our 2024-25 State Supplemental Budget webpage.
The 2024 Supplemental Budget includes adjustments to the budget for the second year of the biennium.

2024 Supplemental Budget Request Submitted
September 27, 2023
In September, Western submitted the FY 2024 Supplemental Budget Request to the State. The Supplemental Budget Request is an opportunity for state agencies, like Western, to request adjustments to their budget for the second year of the biennium. Spring Strategic Budgeting Forum
May 18, 2023
On May 18th, WWU President Sabah Randhawa and the President's Cabinet hosted the Spring Strategic Budgeting Forum, in partnership with the Strategy, Management & Budget office. A video of the forum and presentation slides are available for review for people who missed the forum.
The goal of each Strategic Budgeting Forum is to bring clarity and transparency to the university budgeting process, including an understanding of the different funding sources and timelines Western operates within, and how the budget proposal process interacts with and informs the budget.

Short-Term Savings Strategies
March 13, 2023
President Randhawa sent a budget message to the university community on March 9th that addressed the fiscal challenges that Western currently faces. The university is responding to these challenges with a set of short-term strategies effective immediately and 3% base budget reductions for all divisions effective July 1.

2022-23 Budget Proposal Comment Forum Open
February 24, 2023
Budget proposals were submitted from divisions for consideration as new investments by the President's Cabinet. Proposals are now available on the 2022-23 Budget Proposal Comment Forum.
All faculty, staff, and students are invited to view or submit feedback on proposals using our comment form that is accessible with your universal log in. Comments will be open through April 21st.
Budget Proposals Submitted
February 14, 2023
Twenty-two proposals were submitted by divisions for this year's Strategic Budgeting process. Proposals will be available to the campus community for review and commenting on Friday, February 24th. Feedback on proposals will also be collected from a campus-wide leadership group and the University Budget Committee and provided to President's Cabinet.
Governor's Operating Budget Proposal Released
December 14, 2022
The governor's operating budget proposal for the upcoming biennium was released and it is a strong starting point for WWU. The budget now goes to the state legislature and the House and Senate will release their proposals near the end of the legislative session. SMB has developed a summary of the governor's budget proposal along with a detailed analysis available as a pdf.
University Budget Committee Holds Inaugural Meeting
December 2, 2022
The University Budget Committee held its inaugural meeting on December 6. The committee discussed the committee charter and charge for 2022-2023 and reviewed the university's revenues, expenditures, and budget process. This committee serves as a central university advisory committee intended to broaden the perspectives involved in shaping Western's budgeting processes, providing an institutional viewpoint to President Randhawa. The next meeting of the UBC is January 11th and we will have additional information and resources posted on our website. Check back soon!
